David Owen is an experienced product management executive who has led ideation, development and go-to-market of AI products for over 30 years in the healthcare industry.
His first job at Kurzweil AI in 1987 was implementing speech recognition systems in physicians’ offices, which led to the transformation of the multibillion dollar medical transcription industry. His work, funded by two $2 million grants from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, in the 1990s at Kurzweil and 2000s at 3M and Nuance, established use of natural language processing for medical coding and billing.
More recently, while serving as Chief Product Officer for Net Health, a Carlyle-backed digital health company, he led the purchase of Tissue Analytics, a machine vision start-up from Johns Hopkins, and led that product to receive “break-through status from the U.S. Food and Durg Administration for its ability to measure and predict the healing rate of wounds.
Today, David serves Hult International Business School as an Adjunct Professor of Data Analytics and is Senior Director of Product Management for symplr, leader in enterprise healthcare operations software and services, overseeing Compliance, Quality and Safety products for hospitals.
